Fiber Optic 3-Step Attenuators

These fiber optic 3-Step Attenuators are completely passive devices that enable you to achieve attenuation without using connectors or other "intrusive" devices that can affect the integrity of your fiber link. You will find these devices particularly useful when attenuation must be achieved without producing back-reflections. These devices create the desired level of attenuation by creating one, two or three loops or bends in 3mm jacketed cable. These loops are easily created, by placing the singlemode cable into the recessed paths molded into the body of the attenuator. The housing includes a slide-on cover that secures the loops in place. You can place this attenuator anywhere along the length of the cable, and the device can be repositioned or removed with no permanent affects on the cable. Our 3-Step Attenuators are available in three models, which produce attenuation in the range of 2-7dB, 5-15dB and 5-20dB. Each of the three models has three possible attenuation levels, as represented by the three cable channels molded into the housing. Note that these attenuators are specified for use at 1310nm; attenuation will be higher at 1550nm.
